Student Housing meeting at UJ report

Hi Everyone

City council has organised a meeting, asked all stakeholders around two universities to participate in a gathering to discuss student housing.

about 100 people participated.
at the beginning Lina from City council had a presentation, highlighting the issues and giving criteria for student accommodation approval.

then Uj and Wits representative ha d a presentations emphasizing the need for accommodation.
Frederick was the Representative of brixton residents and after her, it was jack who spoke from a self proclaimed westdene communes committee. he wanted all students to be out of this area.

Caj fro let & stay had a comprehensive presentation covering most of the aspects of student accommodation.

he asked for new regulation for student accommodation. he asked for parking requirement to be removed.

in this meeting NINA DU TOIT announced the formation of the student Accommodation forum and asked the other Commune owners to join.

Student representatives also where there and unfortunately some unpleasant remarks where exchanged which made Mike to leave the meeting.

some resident seems to not understanding the problem.

the fact is that there is need to accommodate 43000 student in this area.

no one can control the issue. universities are not able to accommodate and private sectors should come in.

we need to talk to city council to change their regulations to accommodate students.

Follow Perth Rd, At the BP garage Turn Right , Pass Westdene cycle, And turn into 2nd Ave on your right, The name of the building is Westdene Plaza, park at the back and come to the ( OLD autozone shop) for the meeting.

Parking is free and secure

Please infom other Accommodation owners in the area and bring them along
make sure that they have the proper address and direction

As the city councile has invited all student accommodation owners for a meeting in Uj tomorrow at 6. we nned to come together and discuss what to be our stands as one body.

so it is very urgent and importnat to be present there.

I would like to be able to, before I accommodate someone, run a name check with all SAF members and be sure that the possible tenant doesn't have a bad record at SAF members. I would also like to give names of tenants I can't accommodate to other members and receive names of possible tenants if needed.

First meeting Report

Good news to all Student Accommodation owners in Westdene, Brixton, Melville, Auckland park, Vrededorp, Hurst Hill, Rossmore and Bramfontien.

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION FORUM is now established.

First Meeting Report

The meeting started at 6.30 in Westdene
At the beginning Mr Patrick has offered word of thanks to the participants.
Mr Hoseini had a power point presentation on all aspects of Student accommodation which was welcomed by every one.
Then there was time for all participants to express their opinion on the matter.
every one was exited about the idea and extended their cooperation and support.
At the end the following decisions has been made.

Appointments

Ms Nina Du Toit has been chosen as temporary chairman. (082 4705924)
Mr Juls has been elected as treasurer. (0834195766)
Mrs lorain has been elected as spokesman and public relation officer. (0836025010)

Agendas

Mrs Lorain will prepare a draft for the constitution
she will also prepare a press release and write about the meeting to the papers and will invite other commune owners for next meeting.
chair man will follow the process of registration
chairman will approach UJ to liaison concerning having an office inside university
Every member pledged to invite 10 more commune owners to the next meeting.
